About
AfroRehab2030 is an ambitious initiative under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education Program. This transformative project is a collaboration between four universities in East Africa—two in Kenya and two in Tanzania—and two universities from Europe.
Our mission is to bridge the gap in rehabilitation services in Sub-Saharan Africa, where one in five people, or approximately 210 million individuals, require rehabilitation services due to a combination of infectious and non-communicable chronic health conditions.
Through a blended education model, AfroRehab2030 aims to train highly qualified rehabilitation professionals, develop cutting-edge MSc programs, and promote research and innovation. The project embodies the World Health Organization’s Rehabilitation 2030 Call for Action and the strategies of Kenya and Tanzania, prioritizing the most vulnerable populations in rural and underserved areas.
Project Objectives
To co-develop two blended, interprofessional MSc programs in Rehabilitation with profession-specific exits, one in Kenya and one in Tanzania, that will be nationally accredited by Month 18.
To implement and pilot the first year of the two blended two-year full time MSc programs by Year 3 of the project latest at KCMUCo in Tanzania and at Moi University in Kenya respectively, to have completed the first year by month 35 of the project.
To enhance competence of the four African HEI’s staff in innovative curriculum development and context-sensitive, problem-based and student-active learning methods, as well as enhancing socially- and policy-relevant research competence.
To equip the 4 African HEIs with new digital teaching and learning technology and software allowing for more inclusive, flexible, sustainable and green higher education activities
To enhance Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to in-service rehabilitation workforce and academic career avenues in HE in Kenya and Tanzania.
To promote HEIs networking and close collaboration with civil society, communities, public sector and industry in the field of rehabilitation by holding 3 stakeholder meetings and 3 conferences at various milestones in the project.
